Students qualifying for International Olympiads eligible to get direct admission in IIT Kanpur

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has recently announced an alternative way of getting admission into the institute. Students who will qualify for the International Olympiads in various subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be entitled to get direct admission into the institute. Although, the final decision of admission of those students will be in the hands of respective authorities of institute. Nitin Saxena, chairman of IIT Kanpur said that students who have qualified for International Olympiads have proved their skills and abilities and henceforth, they need no other additional check in the form of IIT-JEE exam. Every year six Indian students represent the country at globally proclaimed Olympiads -he said. This framework has been put into place to try and retain this exceptional talent -he added. Students qualifying for International Olympiads can apply to department of their remarkable subject.



Similar Concept Elsewhere 

IIT Bombay had introduced the same concept for admission into the institute in 2018. Avinash Mahajan, dean of IIT Bombay said, Candidates who qualify for the International Mathematics Olympiad are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Science of Mathematics programme. The institute has reserved eight seats for the respective students. Although, final decision will be in the hands of respective authorities of institute.
